Forays into amigurumi using Aldi crochet kits with the addition of some Noro Kureopatora yarn.

A few months ago I came across some amigurumi crochet kits whilst shopping in Aldi (“So Crafty” product range). Aided and abetted by my daughter, who wanted us to buy multiple boxes of all the kits on offer, I narrowed the selection down to a snail and an octopus.

I remember being quite pleased with the contents for the price. The hook was green plastic, but did the job perfectly well. You can see the quality of the yarn that came with the kit by looking at the snail. It’s basic acrylic which is easy to crochet with and doesn’t split. Subsequently “snaily” has stood up to some pretty rough treatment and is none the worse for wear. For the octopus I decided to up my game and use some Noro Kureopatora single strand wool. This was destined to be a present for a new baby, so I wanted it to be extra special and really cuddly. I found the patterns easy enough to follow, although they were a bit sparse.

It was fun doing something different and I was especially pleased with “octo”. Overall I would recommend these kits, but make sure you hide the spare stuffing from your kids. Mine keep finding it and spreading it all over the place.
